Hey, Rocco, pls don’t strangle no kittens. 🙁 🙁 🙁 Actually, the band’s name is Heyrocco, one word, and they say that they will strangle a kitten when ever someone gets it wrong… But with a name like this, they probably have strangled many kittens. Heyroccois an disco-pop band based out of Charleston, SC. The group recently, Dec 2011, released a three-track EP, “Comfort,” a flowery indie-pop album.
The Trio create very catchy and vivacious pop-music. The first track, “Rave Monks,” starts the record off with great energy–a danceable/discoesque track, conjures up images of late Modest Mouse. “Young,” the 2nd track, a post-rock, quiet song, adds a great dynamic to the EP. Barely audible drums wash in and out over the the melodic guitars and vocals. The EP ends with a pretty standard indie-pop song, “Staples,” reminding one of the Walkmen.
The group brandishes a jerky, rhythm conscious guitar sound, which are dynamic enough to keep one engaged. Their truly distinguishing element, however, are their vocals. Heyrocco’s vocals dance somewhere between the bellowing falsetto of Woods and the wavering beauty of Jeff Buckley. The vocals just seem to float above the rest of the music. Adding an unexpected aspect to the music.
Heyroccois selling their album on Band camp. It’s a name your own price, so potentially it’s free, but you should definately give the band a couple of bucks for the album. It’s worth it.
